GENERAL PLANTING AND CARE

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO INSURE PROPER INSTALLATION AND VIABILITY OF YOUR NEW LANDSCAPE ORNAMENTALS

1. Plants are living and perishable – HANDLE WITH CARE

2. Dig hole 1 / 3 wider but no deeper than the actual size of the pot or ball. Save the topsoil in a separate pile.

3. Remove pot (if your shrub is in one). DO NOT remove wire basket, burlap or cut string from balled and burlap (B&B) plants. Remove only any white elastic mesh. Regular brown or green burlap will rot in the ground. DO NOT REMOVE IT, doing so will void the warrantee.

4. If your potted shrub is root bound then gently loosen roots or make a few vertical slashes in the root ball.

5. Place roots in the hole and adjust depth so finished planting grade will be at the top of the root ball.

6. Amend the topsoil (you saved) with compost (we sell it in bulk) mixing compost to soil about 50 / 50 will greatly aid in root and shoot development.

7. Pack the mix around the root ball.

8. Build a soil “well” around your excavation with the remaining soil from the hole; top dress with 9 month fertilizer and soak with water and mulch.

9. Stake if necessary (especially trees in windy areas).

10. Please take note of any plastic twine that may be around neck of tree.  This twine will need to be cut a year after planting, but not before then as this stabilizes the tree until roots have grown out into the soil.

Water every 2 - 5 days using your own discretion as soil types and conditions vary greatly. When watering, soak the soil thoroughly. A lawn sprinkler is NOT recommended as this only waters the top 1" or so of the soil.
